Healthcare Reimagined: Technology for a Better Nigeria, Vision for a Modern Africa

“A dream we can have now instead of waiting for future for Nigeria, or even all of Africa, where records are fully digitized — no more piles of paper or lost files. A system where any record can be retrieved in seconds, leveraging technology to its fullest potential.

Where every citizen would have a unique identity number, assigned at birth, proving they exist and were born in Nigeria. These records would be encrypted, secure, and tamper-proof.

Imagine a newborn receiving their identity number on the day they’re born, instantly integrated into the system as a record that he/she came to this world.

Even the dead should have a record..

A country where health records would be a priority, stored in a database for research and tracking, ensuring they’re treated as vital tools to save lives.

With my ID, an authorization code, or even a thumbprint in emergencies, I want to be able to walk into any hospital and have my medical history accessed instantly — no delays, no excuses.

I should be able to view my family’s health trends, understand our records, and take proactive steps to protect my well-being.

Maybe we can have a country where healthcare would be taken seriously, recognizing that a life can be lost in a mere minute.

This future we could have now would include a society educated about health based on facts — not assumptions or self-made theories — free from excessive spirituality overshadowing medical care.

Where a dedicated health emergency number, and ambulances would be as common, commercialised, and responsive as tow trucks, ensuring timely care.

Access to quality healthcare should be for everyone whether someone has money or not.

Where the old medicinal ways or our knowledge of herbs and local remedies would be harnessed effectively with proper research.

Maybe we can have more hospital with regulated doctors and authorities for sanction where no more extended appointment delays — like waiting six months to see a doctor for an emergency, or waiting for police report before treatment when life is at stake. That’s unacceptable to me.

I wish Nigeria could build a better health system to improve citizens’ lives and have good record keeping in the health sector.

Maybe one day, we’ll have a system that prioritizes and saves precious lives efficiently as we should now instead of waiting for future.”
